2 - Saturday 1 December 2001

A great
programme of talks were organised. Each speaker reflected personal
experience since graduation including non-medical and lifestyle changes.
Ken Woods gave a unforgettable collage of Southern African and
especially Cape wildlife and Natural scenery. It left us breathless.
Graham Ducasse spoke of his Antarctic experience. The now trim and slim
superfit guy showed pics of life in a fridge. And what pics they were.
Amazing! Richard Hift gave us insight into teaching methods now in his
control at Groote Schuur. His anecdotes and instamatic photos from the
70's left us laughing with suprise at how we've changed. Incredible.
Mark Freddy Friedlander spoke of anaesthesia, and some medicolegal
experiences especially related to a rare case of anaesthetic related
carbon monoxide poisoning. That together with anecdotes of his life in
Toronto and cycling tours around Provence' France..where else!...Trevor
Terblanche gave a chat on managed care and South African Health care
tomorrow...and David Gotllieb gave a chat on aspects of Rheumatology,
his life changes, and experiences of the internet in medicine. Charles
Helm showed us how one can really invest in the outdoor life, in the
joys of rural environment in Canada, and a book writer to boot. Martin
Brossy went through anaesthesia in a minute ... or seconds and gave us a
laugh as he did so...Whilst Daryll Vine had us in hysterics over his
sailing exploits from Canada to USA and his moment in the limelight in
Los Angeles with the rich and famous...and he's a gynaecologist to
boot...Cathy Fraser told us about life in Sydney and made many jealous
and Alan Peachy did the same with Tasmania...Oh how we've changed and grown. All
seemed contented, although so yearning for the sun of Africa was noticeable...especially
as the snow came down in the North America's. Well done to Raoul Scholtz
and Dick Pitcher for organizing the academic day...and what a success it
was.
That night - it was Jonkershuis Groot Constantia for supper and a class photo attempt in the rain ...as all scrambled for cover...So we will wait another few years for another attempt. |
||
| Day 3 - Sunday - December 2. | Cricket and a braai at Uitsig farm. a setting that just fell into place...enabling chats and leaving bonds not to be broken by simple miles. even if they are thousands of them. Altogether - we all felt somehow connected. We all felt good. and we want to do it again in 5 years time. so book and plan. its on... | ||
